We just had Black Friday and Cyber Monday. These kinds of sales get us excited! The bigger the sales, the more we are influenced to act so we can get a “good deal.”
Our love for sales happens with retail goods, commodities, and services…just about everything in life, except for stock market sales.
When the stock market goes on sale, we get anxious and fearful. We wonder how much lower it will go. Unlike retail sales that are planned, stock market sales occur without any warning and are triggered by concerns or crises.
We have had lots of “stock market sales” over the past seven years. Each one is an opportunity for investors to get out their buying list and get a good deal, but often investors are influenced to sell or just to sit tight.
Taking Advantage of the Next Sale
At some point the market will go on sale again. If history is any guide, many investors will sell into the sale. We can prepare ourselves mentally and emotionally to take advantage of the sales with the following tips:
- Expect a selloff will occur
- Know that negativity will abound
- Create a game plan today to buy low tomorrow
One of my primary functions is to help my clients weather the sell offs and be in a position to take advantage of an upcoming stock market sale.
